With the weather warming up and summer fun to be had, it is easy to overlook the importance of preparing your home for the summer heat. Here are a few tips to protect your energy bill and the comfort of a cool house.

  1. Inspect your windows. Are your windows properly sealed? If your seal/caulk is peeling, you may be receiving some unwanted warm air.
  2. Replace your air filter. Your air filter should be checked once a month in the summer because it is used much more often throughout this season.
  3. Shut the door!  You wouldn't leave your refrigerator open for an extended amount of time. Shut your front door to keep in as much cool air as you can.
  4. Strategically install fans.  Fans can be utilized to pull warm air from unwanted areas and push cool air in the preferred areas of your home. The center of a ceiling is typically the best area to place a fan.
